From sketch to delivery: 5 actions that make "expedited delivery" of customized silicone parts possible

Measurement, Quality and Procurement

"Expedited delivery" is not to rush the schedule, but to front-load the risk and parallelize the validation. In this paper, we give a set of accelerated process from the drawing to the mass production reusable, taking into account the delivery time and quality.

1. Clarifying the objective: how far to expedite the process

  • Sampling only (functional verification)
  • Small batch pilot production (assembly/reliability)
  • Mass production delivery (with stability and traceability)

Different objectives determine whether a mold is needed, whether a soft/fast mold is available, and whether complete validation must be done.

2. 5 pre-movements (most cycle-reducing)

  1. Drawing Freezing and Critical Dimension Confirmation: Seal Line Related Dimensions Priority Locking
  2. Material and hardness are selected first: Avoid repeated material testing.
  3. Structural manufacturability review: mold pulling, chamfering, parting line and burr control
  4. Synchronization of validation plans: definition of sample size, test items and determination criteria
  5. Preparation of tooling and assembly conditions: avoiding the "sample made out of the installation can not be"

3. Proofing acceleration strategies

  • Rapid prototyping/modular molds: suitable for multiple varieties and small batches
  • Process Parallelism: simultaneous advancement of mold processing and material confirmation
  • Test fit priority: run assembly and leakage first, then do tightened aging

4. Risk control: the most common pitfalls of expediting

  • Dimensioning without compression: leading to unstable seal retention
  • Neglect of secondary vulcanization and cleaning: rework of odor/volatiles/contamination issues later in the process
  • Changes are not documented: customer audits and traceability cannot be passed

5. Deliverables (recommended to be provided with samples)

  • Material Lot Number and COA
  • Critical dimensions report (with measurement methods)
  • Summary of process parameters (confidential version)
  • Test fit and leak verification records

FAQ

1. Can I make a sample first and then fill in the information?

Yes, but you need to agree on the "fill-in milestones" at the time of the project, otherwise the mass production will easily get stuck in the review process.

2. Will expediting lead to a drop in yield?

If the front-end action is sufficient, the yield is more controllable; the real cause of yield decline is "changing while doing and no verification".
