Site Opening - O-Ring Common Groove Groove Types: Improving Performance and Reliability

Sealing Design and Assembly

What are the three common groove groove styles for O-ring seals?

O-ring seals are important components used in a variety of mechanical systems designed to prevent leakage of fluids or gases. The effectiveness of O-ring seals depends greatly on the design of their mounting grooves. Below are three common groove styles for O-ring seals:

1,Circular groove: This is the most widely used groove design. It provides uniform compression around the O-ring, ensuring a reliable seal. The round groove is suitable for low to medium pressure applications.

2,Square groove: Use this groove design when higher sealing pressures are required. The square groove allows for greater O-ring compression, which enhances sealing performance in some applications. It is typically used in dynamic sealing applications.

3,Trapezoidal groove: The trapezoidal groove is designed to accommodate larger O-rings. This design helps to evenly distribute pressure, reduce extrusion risk and improve sealing ability in high pressure applications.
