LSR A/B Metering Checks: Ratio, Mixing and Restart History

Molding, Tooling and Finishing
Key point: Follow the exact grade and supplier instructions for liquid silicone rubber A/B metering. Distinguish mass ratio, volume ratio and the equipment display. Correct ratio does not prove homogeneous mixing, and homogeneous mixing does not establish acceptable material after a stoppage. Record these separately.

Do not generalize one ratio to every system

WACKER's processing guide describes LSR component feeding, metering, mixing and injection. Use the processing data for the actual grade. When changing grade or adding pigment, confirm the ratio basis, addition limits and compatibility. Do not adjust A/B ratio informally to change hardness.

Review the complete material path

Check component lots, line identification, feed stability, metering verification and mixer condition. Actual output can differ from the setpoint; use a method suitable for the equipment and material. Local soft streaks justify investigating mixing and contamination but do not establish a root cause by appearance alone.

Verify restart separately

Record downtime, line temperature and material residence history, then follow supplier and equipment instructions for clearing or handling. Recheck restart first-off parts even when prestoppage production passed. Trained personnel must sample and clean under equipment procedures; do not dismantle a pressurized line informally.

Illustrative project example

If early restart parts develop soft spots at an unchanged setpoint, retain early and later samples and review residence history. Adding more A or B without validation can hide rather than resolve the abnormality.

Frequently asked questions

Are all A/B systems mixed 1:1?

No. Follow the specific product instructions rather than applying a common LSR ratio to every two-component silicone.

Does final hardness prove accurate metering?

Hardness is one outcome, not a replacement for metering and mixing records.
